A simple lesson

non-violence

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always."
-- Mahatma Gandhi

Ghandi was a creep, he had several underage women like 9 or so massage him daily. Plus a bunch of other stuff, he was also one of those fake guru types in india.

Although I disagree with plenty of Gandhi's personal life (he was a terrible father) and his religious views, this doesn't dilute his blueprint for potent political restructuring. There are plenty of people whose lives we separate from their thought, most ancient Greek thinkers come to mind. The Mahatma's philosophy of satyagraha derives its power from a single elemental fact - that the rulers are few and the ruled are great. Every government needs the acquiescence of it's populace, Gandhi exercised an effective method of withdrawing popular consent while maintaining moral superiority. If there's any doubt as to the value of his method simply survey the variety of non-violent movements which have promoted dramatic and lasting change: Walesa in Poland against Soviet rule, the Dalai Lama's struggle against Chinese occupation of Tibet, Nelson Mandela in South Africa, Havel in Czechoslovakia against the Soviets, Martin Luther King Jr. against racial inequality in America to name a few. Gandhi's non-violent non-cooperation has been successful in nearly every continent. In my opinion, this does not qualify him as a "creep".
